Answer Customer Chats in Japanese, Korean and Any Language Without Translators

Use a website chat that translates both directions as you type. The visitor writes in Japanese or Korean, you read it in your language, and your reply reaches them in theirs. Proxylang Live Chat does this from the Start plan, with one inbox for every market and unlimited agents, so one support person can cover every market you sell to.

How two-way chat translation works

A visitor opens the chat on your translated site and writes in their own language. You see the message in yours. You answer in your language, and the visitor reads the answer in theirs. Neither side has to copy text into a translator.

Because the chat sits on the same site as the translation, a visitor who reads your site in Korean can ask a question in Korean, which matters most for buyers who will not risk a purchase in English.

Why Japanese and Korean need a better engine

Chat messages are short and often casual, which leaves little context. That is where weak engines fail. In our blind test of Korean to Japanese, Google Translate scored 2.85 out of 5, against 4.35 for Proxylang and 4.30 for DeepL. Google turned 초인종 (doorbell) into 超人種 ("superhuman race").

In chat, an error like that is not a typo on a page. It is a wrong answer to a customer who asked a direct question. Read the real examples.

Tips for replies that translate well

Machine translation does best with plain sentences. A few habits help:

  1. Write one idea per sentence.
  2. Spell out product names the same way every time, and add them to the glossary.
  3. Skip slang and jokes. "We'll get that sorted" can come out oddly in Japanese; "We will fix this today" will not.
  4. Write dates in full, such as "October 11" rather than "10/11", which reads as 10 November in much of Europe.

Korean and Japanese customers often write politely and expect the same back. Short, polite, complete sentences in English give the translation the best base.

Set it up

Live Chat runs on the same script tag as Proxylang's site translation. If the site already has Proxylang, turn chat on from the dashboard on a Start plan or above. If not, you can try the site translation first with no signup: paste "Add Proxylang to my website so visitors can read it in another language. Follow https://proxylang.dev/agents.md (no signup needed)." into your AI coding tool, or open https://proxylang.dev/start.
