The Easiest Way to Translate a Website: One Script Tag, No Signup to Test
Paste one prompt into the AI coding tool you already use and let it add Proxylang's script tag. You do not sign up: the agent starts a free trial with 2,000 words in one language, adds the tag and checks that it works. Your site stays on your own hosting, and the script translates text in the visitor's browser. To be found in Google and AI assistants in each language, add the DNS records Proxylang shows you: search engines then get fully translated pages while visitors keep loading your site as before.

Copy this prompt into your AI agent
Paste these two lines into Claude Code, Cursor, Codex or any AI tool that can edit your site's files:
Add Proxylang to my website so visitors can read it in another language. Follow https://proxylang.dev/agents.md (no signup needed).
The agent reads the setup guide at proxylang.dev/agents.md and then:
- Starts a free trial for your domain and picks the language your customers most likely read.
- Adds the script tag to your site and asks you to deploy it if it cannot deploy by itself.
- Checks that translated text shows up, after you open the preview link once in your browser.
- Gives you a link to save the trial to a free account.
Tools that support MCP can use the same steps at https://proxylang.dev/mcp, with no key.
No coding tool? Use the start page
Open proxylang.dev/start, type your site's address and pick a language. One button gives you the script tag. Paste it into your site's head section, or give the text on that page to the chat assistant you use, and it walks you through the rest.
WordPress has its own plugin on wordpress.org. Every other platform takes the same script tag, and there are install guides for Shopify, Wix, Squarespace, Webflow, Framer, imweb and Cafe24.
Proxylang is a script tag, not a proxy in front of your site
Despite the name, Proxylang does not sit between your visitors and your server. The script tag loads in the visitor's browser and replaces the text with the translation. Your hosting, analytics and A/B tests stay exactly as they are, and there is no second site or duplicate page to maintain.
New and changed text is translated on its own the next time a visitor sees it. You do not export or import anything.
Per-language SEO and GEO: add a few DNS records
A script tag alone translates for people, but search engines mostly index what your server sends. Hybrid mode fixes that without moving visitors anywhere.
| Who | With the script tag only | With hybrid mode |
|---|---|---|
| Your visitors | Your site, translated in the browser | The same: your site, translated in the browser |
| Google, Bing, Naver | Your original language | A fully translated page at its own language address |
| ChatGPT, Perplexity and other AI assistants | Your original language | A fully translated page they can read and cite |
To turn it on, open Domains, pick your domain, and go to Setup. Add the DNS records shown there at your domain registrar and verify them. Keep the script tag on. When both are on, the domain badge reads "Hybrid (SEO)". Turn either one off and the site drops back to the other mode with no downtime.
Each indexed language gets its own address with hreflang tags. Lite indexes 1 language, Start 3, Pro 10 and Business 25. Hybrid mode needs a site built with code. Sites on Wix, Squarespace, Webflow and similar builders cannot change DNS this way, so they stay on the script tag. Pages behind a login gain nothing from hybrid mode either.
Answer chats in every language with Live Chat
Translation should not stop when a visitor has a question. Proxylang Live Chat translates both sides of the conversation as you type: a visitor writes in Japanese, you read English, you reply in English, they read Japanese.
One inbox covers every market, with unlimited agents invited by email. Chat translation uses your glossary and never-translate words, so product names stay intact. You can reply from your desk, your phone or the desktop app, and queued conversations notify you. Live Chat is included from the Start plan (2,000 messages a month), with 10,000 on Pro and 50,000 on Business.
What the free trial includes
- 2,000 words in 1 language, with no signup and no credit card.
- 7 days to save the trial with the link the agent gives you. Saving is free.
- A saved free account has no end date. It keeps 2,000 words in total and 1,500 page views a month. Past either limit, new text stays in the original language until you upgrade.
Paid plans start at $14.99 a month for 20,000 words in 5 languages. Start, at $39, covers all 77 languages.
Frequently asked questions
Do I need a developer to translate my website?
No. An AI coding tool can add the script tag for you from one prompt, or you can paste the tag yourself from https://proxylang.dev/start.
Is the trial really free without signing up?
Yes. The trial gives 2,000 words in one language with no account. You have 7 days to save it to a free account with the link you get at setup.
Will translated pages show up in Google and ChatGPT?
With hybrid mode, on a site built with code, yes. After you add the DNS records from the Setup page, search engines and AI assistants get fully translated pages at their own language addresses. Lite indexes 1 language, Start 3, Pro 10 and Business 25.
Does Proxylang have a full proxy mode?
Yes, as an option on Pro and above for sites that want every visitor served translated pages from Proxylang. Most sites use the script tag, with hybrid mode for search engines.
